Filip Stoica is a Romanian choreographer and movement director who creates live dance for projection mapping, LED and interactive light. With the studio Mindscape he choreographed, directed the movement for and performed in productions in Riyadh — including the World Weightlifting Championships opening and the GCC Awards — and brand shows for E.ON and Strongbow.

What is a projection-mapping dance show?
It is a live performance in which dancers move in front of, or inside, video projected onto a stage, a screen, a building or an LED wall. Choreography and video are timed together, so a gesture seems to open a door, push a wall or set the image in motion. Without that timing it is only dancing in front of a video.
What does the choreographer do on a mapping show?
Reads the storyboard and the timeline, marks every point where the body has to meet the image, builds the movement to the cue list, and rehearses the dancers until the illusion holds from the audience's seats and in the broadcast cameras.
What do you need to book one?
The date and city, the surface (stage, façade or LED), the running time, whether the video already exists, and a budget range. Filip can join remotely while the content is being made and come on site for the final rehearsals.

Mapped dance act
A self-contained act in which dancers trigger, hide and reveal the projected image — built to your content or created with the studio of your choice.
Choreography for your mapping content
For studios with finished or in-progress content: movement designed to the timeline, the cue list and the projection surface.
Interactive or sensor-driven piece
Choreography for systems in which the body drives the content, as in Sonification Room.
